White Weddings

People wonder what sense there is in still having white weddings, since the bride wearing white is supposedly a symbol of her virginity, and people nowadays don’t exactly wait until their wedding night to lose their virginity, at least not many of them. But the truth is people still get married in white, and it’s simply because it’s a tradition. Many wedding traditions are kept even though people no longer know what they mean and what they were there for originally, but still keep with them because it’s tradition, and because most of them are actually fun or beautiful.

A good example is the tradition involving the wedding earrings. In some places the bride wears heirloom earrings, belonging to her mother or the at least the same ones that her mother wore in her wedding day. This is also a shout out to the “virginity” aspect of a wedding, as it is meant to symbolize her mother having the bride’s “ear” and advising her on what to do, not only in the wedding night, but also throughout her entire married life. Although these sort of traditions may sound a bit odd for us now, the truth is you’ll probably keep some of them in your wedding day.
